CEO participates in sleepout17 Jul 2013, Posted by News in
OMA Member and TorchMedia CEO Andrew Gibson braved the cold on 20 June to take part in The Vinnies CEO Sleepout event in Sydney. This annual event commenced in 2006 and engages business leaders to raise awareness and funds to help people who are living on the streets. To date the event has raised over $13million for Vinnies Homeless Services across Australia.
“As a company we support Vinnies as our primary charity and the CEO Sleepout is something we have been involved with for the past four years. The night itself is a sobering experience when you listen to those people who have been doing it really tough and have been helped by Vinnies to get back on their feet” said Andrew Gibson.
He added that misconceptions need to be addressed, especially notions that the majority of homeless people are middle-aged or elderly men.
“Anyone of us, no matter how successful, can fall on hard times. We need to raise awareness that of the 100,000 plus Australians who find themselves homeless, half of them are women.” said Andrew.
It’s great to see the OOH industry once again taking an active role to give back to the community.
